The UV filter’s function is to protect the cornea and eye tissues beneath it from
negative effects of ultraviolet radiation.
UV-A rays comprise 99% of solar radiation, and their effects cause changes in the structure of enzymes. UV-B rays decompose proteins, thereby negatively affecting the metabolism of cells and disrupting DNA structure, causing the cancerous growth. Humans are partially protected from UV-B rays by the ozone layer.
What exactly is UV?
UV (ultraviolet rays) are part of the light produced by the sun. For humans, this light is visually unnoticeable, due to its shorter wavelength. Ultraviolet rays were discovered in the early 19th century by a German physicist and divided into several groups according to their wavelength.
